Start the new year with a temporary tattoo!
Henna is a plant that gives off a reddish/brown dye that has been used for centuries in Asia and Africa on hair and skin for celebrations and for beauty. The henna powder is mixed with lemon juice, eucalyptus oil and sugar to create a paste that has a texture that resembles chocolate frosting. When it hardens, lemon juice and sugar are dabbed on to help enhance the color. The longer you leave the paste on, the better chance you have of getting good color. It cannot be washed for 12 hours.
Every person reacts differently to it, but for most, the stain turns into a brown color which lasts for a week to ten days.
When:
Sunday, December 30th, 2-6PM
The henna design takes up to half an hour to apply. Then has to dry and then we apply the lemon juice. After you have the juice on, you can leave. Or, you can hang out and visit. Expect to be around for at least an hour.
Where:
901 North 32nd St.
4 blocks past Pizza by the Pound on the way to Kroger
There is parking for three cars on the property and lots of parking across the street at a vacant restaurant.
What:
Artist Rachel Biel (me) lives in the house and was trained in the henna art by Indian friends in Chicago. I have done many festivals over the years and painted hundreds of hands and feet in traditional Indian designs. I have a book people can look through and have also adapted some bold tribal designs that guys seem to like.
Note: At this party we are doing ONLY hands because of the weather. Henna dyes darkest at the extremities, hands and feet, but feet work best when the weather is hot. It’s $35 per hand or $60 to do both.
There will be snacks available and you are welcome to bring a couple of tag along people with you. The house is not child proofed, so kids are expected to behave. 🙂 (As are adults, ha, ha!)
Allergies: The henna I use is natural and organic and I have never had problems with it. People have reacted to commercial black henna mixes which I do not use. I do have four cats and a chihuahua living in the house, but they are not allowed in the public area.
There will be snacks!
