Reverse painting on glass and collage, West Meets East Series, 2008
In this series, I was interested in merging East/West images from the past to make a statement about our present, hoping to create harmony out of situations which contrast so starkly with current the current hate environment between Christians and Muslims. I combined both reverse painting on glass with decoupage to make the collages. Everything is painted or glued on directly to the glass. The big challenge is to keep from getting air bubbles in the sealing process. Some were also just images asking questions about gender or work. I especially love the images of boys and men knitting during WWII to aid in the war effort. Many of the pictures came from old Life Magazines.
