The Cross Cultural Collaborative is a creative program Ellie Schimelman runs in Ghana which offers community art programs and residencies. One of TAFA‘s pioneer members, it is one of the inspirations for the Green Roof Culture Hub.

My name is Ellie Schimelman. Many years ago as an art school graduate I went to Ghana drawn to its art and culture. I did the tourist route, volunteer teaching, apprenticeships in traditional crafts villages and finally settled in Aba House next to the ocean. (In Ghana Aba is a female born on Thursday.) Here we offer workshops with indigenous artisans – artist residencies – opportunities to work with local children -culturally relevant tours …anything that introduces visitors to Ghanaian culture on a personal level.
Cross Cultural Collaborative is our non-profit that oversees these programs.
I am very happy to be part of the TAFA community where there is such a concentration of creative people. Although not a textile artist, my focus is diversity and appreciation of world art so this is the perfect platform for me to appreciate what the members are doing.
