I am an artist living in California and I work in numerous media and genre: acrylics, fiber, mixed media, assemblage, collage, sculpture etc. Although I do create some work that does not have a social/political theme, much of what I do touches on what I see, read, and experience in life that impacts the living reality…not just of humans, but of all living things. Life is a treasure and should be valued… I am not sure why human beings throughout history and the present have been unable or unwilling to grasp this concept, and practice it. Troubling. We must do better.
My work can be found at: www.barbettalockart.com, www.itsastudio.com, and www.artworkarchive.com/profile/barbetta-lockart.
I also have a store on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/ITSAStudioArts, and a presence on Facebook: ITSA Studio and Barbetta-Lockart-Contemporary-Art . Additionally, I have an Instagram account: itsastudioarts.
To the community in Paducah:
We all live in a world that is becoming increasingly damaged and threatened, and that we have the power to care for, assist, and save…if we work together to do so. All living things deserve respect and nurturing, be they human or otherwise, and we simply must realize this and practice it. All the millennia of warfare, in-fighting, greed, religious or philosophical intolerance, racism and bigotry have not really accomplished anything; have we learned nothing? Perhaps it is time to try a different method: loving, caring, respecting. Let’s be part of that change, let’s embrace that new methodology and make it our own and use it to bring peace and sanity back to our troubled world and our troubled communities. We must make these changes not only for ourselves, but for the generations to come.
Injustice Destroys Us All was created for the United Nations 4th World Conference on Women, Beijing, China, 1995. It did not travel because of its bulk/wood stake, metal etc. and was being hand carried, but a silk piece I made did and was hung in one of the halls of speeches (or so I was told).
